UPDATE: JUNE 25TH, 2004

Upwards of 60 people met to make plans and get a clear understanding of what we do next to seek a declaratory judgment (motion to seek a declaratory judgment passed unanimously at the June 9th meeting, where more than 600 attended).

Eric Smith of Chatham Biotec Ltd. explained the legal process. Four of our committee members review the 5˝ hour video of the June 9th meeting and record all questions that were asked. These are given to Mr. Smith’s lawyers and consultants who compile a master document in which our unanswered questions and theirs are combined.

This document is given to the Department of the Environment and the Proponent. In effect this document informs them officially and in writing about serious concerns regarding procedures, unanswered questions, and gaps in the data. If the Department provides the proponent with a permit, or if the proponent starts construction before deficiencies causing environmental damages are addressed, a declaratory judgment will be registered in court and both the Province and Irving can be held liable for any damages. Under these circumstances, will the province want to issue a permit?

We strongly encourage everyone to have input. Contact Ann or Randy by phone or email.

Lisa Weaver is taking the lead to build a float for the Minto Fun Days Parade (Saturday July 3rd) and Princess Park following the parade. Murray Barton volunteered his truck/trailer.

Bob McLean and Lawrence Reece are leading a fundraiser for newspaper advertisements.

The proponents promised (at the public meeting, June 9th) to make changes to their proposal available to the public immediately and upon request. To date, they have not replied to repeated requests for revisions to their proposal.

What can you do?

Copy all letters to Premier Bernard Lord. All MLAs at: PO.Box6000, Fredericton E3B5H1
