Update: May 4th, 2004
Another Great Turnout! - 100 concerned citizens met at the Cumberland
Bay Fire Hall. MP John Herron and MLA Eugene McGinley joined us.
Our concern regarding geology of the site was included in a letter recently
sent to the proponent (Irving) by the Dept. of the Environment. We are
to get a direct response.
No word yet as to when Irving will schedule the Public Meeting. We have
asked to be included in developing the agenda for this meeting. Teams
have completed their questions. WE ARE READY!
The Sierra Club is reviewing the project documentation we sent them.
John Herron suggested we consider requesting that the NB Government
pay for an independent consultant who could understand/interpret some
of our key questions. The Sierra Club is aware we need someone with
technical expertise in geology/chemistry. We await their response.
Eugene McGinley encouraged us to continue writing letters to politicians:
By the time there is a provincial vote (your ultimate power) it might
be too late for this project. Write those letters folks.
This week send letters to the Minister of Tourism & Parks, Joan MacAlpine,
PO Box 6000, Fredericton, NB E3B 5H1 with a copy of that letter to Premier
Bernard Lord at the same address. Our letter writing is critically important
at this time.
